Kava and Tradition
In the Pacific Ocean cultures of Polynesia, Vanuatu, Melanesia, and some regions of Micronesia and Australia, kava is consumed in a variety of ways.
Traditional Preparation
The roots of the kava plant are traditionally chewed, ground, or pounded to prepare it. The product is then added to cold water and consumed as quickly as possible. Kava prepared as described above is much more potent than processed kava.
In Fiji this Kava drink is known as Grog and Grog is traditionally drunk from the shorn half-shell of a coconut. This process is very social in nature and often brings people together for storytelling and sharing space.
Traditional Uses
In the Pacific, kava is utilized for ceremonial, medical, religious, political, cultural, and social purposes. These cultures hold the plant in high regard and have tremendous respect for it.
Kava Bars
Most Kava Bars tend to gear towards the preparation of their kava in a more traditional sense. It shows a sign of respect for the drink itself. The same can be said about Kratom too.
